THE Clarence Football Club has found its replacement for outgoing coach Jeromey Webberley with former Glenorchy premiership player and former Clarence assistant coach Peter Ryan unveiled as its new coach for season 2022.

Ryan joins the club on a two year deal after spending the past 10 years coaching in Queensland, where he spent time as an assistant-coach at Aspley in the NEAFL.

Ryan spent the past eight seasons involved with the Brisbane Lions Academy, where he played crucial roles in the development of the best young talent in Queensland.

The Tasmanian-born Ryan said he was thrilled to be chosen as the man to lead the Roos into the future.

“The list that they’ve got at the moment is an exciting one and Jeromey has done a fantastic job over the past five years to put them in a position to compete with the better teams in the competition and so it’s a really exciting time to be joining the club,” he said.

Ryan joins Clarence after a successful year, which saw the club finish third and make a preliminary final before falling to eventual premier Launceston.

Clarence president Margaret Sutherland said Ryan was the right man for the job.

“Peter brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the club and will no doubt build on the tremendous work of Jeromey over the past five years to take our senior side and club as a whole to an exciting new level of sustained success,” she said.

“The experience that Peter gained at the Brisbane Lions will be invaluable for our playing list at Clarence, which has an exciting blend of talented youth and more experienced campaigners.”

Webberley stood down as Clarence coach at the end of the season, and two weeks later was appointed coach of the Tasmanian Devils boys and girls programs.
