MEDIA reports of Tasmania falling off a GST cliff by the end of the decade are exaggerated. Nowhere has the quantum of the state’s GST receipts been included in reports. The annual GST income for Tasmania is approaching $3 billion. While $100 million is a significant sum, it represents 3 per cent of the total — 2030 is a way off in both years and governments, let’s not panic just yet.
