Weather worry for juvenile

- TRENTON AKERS

STEVEN O’Dea is looking to the heavens as he weighs up whether to run his impressive two-year-old Palazzo Spirit at Doomben on Saturday.

Faced with a wide draw and the prospect of rain, O’Dea says he is on the fence whether to run his smart trial winner or hold off for another week when the two-year-olds are split into two divisions at Eagle Farm.

“He may not run on Saturday, we haven’t quite made up our mind so it’ll depend on how much rain we get over the next couple of days,” O’Dea (pictured) said.

“He has drawn a bit awkwardly as well and there is the option of waiting for the colts and geldings race next week. I would say he is 50-50 if he runs this week.”

Currently rated a $3.20 favourite with TAB, Palazzo Spirit is favoured to win on Saturday ahead of the Chris Muncetrained Primed For Victory in what is the second two-yearold race of the season after Paul Butterworth won the Pat O’Shea Plate at Toowoomba last week with Menari Magic.

Palazzo Spirit has been one of a number of standout trial performers for the stable, with Merrily arguably the most impressive juvenile produced in Queensland so far.
