AFL takes on SFL complaint

- CAMERON WHITELEY

THE AFL’s integrity unit has been called in to investigate a complaint involving a southern Tasmanian football club.

Last month, it was revealed the New Norfolk Football Club was running its own investigation into an “alleged incident”.

The club had been getting support from Southern Football League and AFL Tasmania but the matter has now been escalated to the AFL.

“AFL Tasmania and the SFL were made aware of a complaint involving members of the New Norfolk District Football Club,’’ an AFL Tasmania spokesman said.

“The matter has been referred to the AFL Integrity Unit, who are investigating.”

Tasmania Police said there had been no reports made to police about the incident.

The nature of the complaint has not been specified, nor who it relates to.

The club plays in the SFL and has representation in the men’s and women’s competitions. The New Norfolk Football Club has been contacted for comment.
