Another official victory for Tasmania as Claire’s excellence duly recognised

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

HOBART referee Claire Green says it is a reflection on the level of soccer in the state that she has become the third local appointment to the A-League Women’s assistant-refereeing panel.

Green, who began refereeing seven years ago, joined fellow-Tasmanians on the referee list behind Sarah Den Hartog, and Lauren Hargrave, who ran the line in the 2021 W-League grand final.

Green is a regular assistant referee for NPL Tasmania.

She officiated the 2021 Lakoseljac Cup final.

“It’s great to have been recognised from Tasmania and given this opportunity to progress with my refereeing career on a national level,” Green said.

“I have worked hard for many years to get to this point. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without all the coaches who have mentored me, and fellow-referees for providing a good support system.”

Football Tasmania’s outgoing Referee Manager, Tony Peart, said it was fantastic to see another Tasmanian woman follow in the footsteps of Den Hartog and Hargrave and be selected to officiate at the highest level in Australia.

“Claire has been a pleasure to work with over the past four years,” he said.

“And her increased dedication to training over the past 12 months has seen her elevate the standards of her match-day performances to the required level for national competition.

“Claire will now need to keep progressing and working hard if she is to gain regular appointments and work towards being considered for a place on the international list.”

Green encouraged anyone interested in becoming a ref to contact Football Tasmania.
