Hurricanes score a Ghosh coup

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

INDIAN sensation Richa Ghosh has joined Hobart Hurricanes for their summer WBBL campaign, adding one of the world’s best upand-coming cricketers to the squad.

Ghosh, 18, has already made her international debut, playing for India against Australia in last year’s Tri-National Women’s T20 series in the lead-up to the ICC T20 World Cup.

She went on to represent her country in the flagship tournament itself, in which India was eventual runner-up and joins the Cane Train for her debut WBBL season. “I’m very excited to be playing in the WBBL this year,” Ghosh said.

“I’m very thankful to the Hurricanes for this opportunity and I’m looking forward to coming to Tasmania and meeting my new teammates.”

Ghosh will meet the team in Hobart after the CommBank Series between India and Australia.

She has been named in the place of Lizelle Lee, who has signed with the Hurricanes for WBBL|07.

Lee recently withdrew from the tournament, citing the need to take an indefinite break from cricket.

Ghosh joins Nicola Carey, Mignon du Preez (o/s), Maisy Gibson, Angelina Genford, Ruth Johnston, Sasha Moloney, Rachel Priest (o/s), Chloe Rafferty, Amy Smith, Naomi Stalenberg, Molly Strano, Rachel Trenaman (inj.), Belinda Vakarewa and Tayla Vlaeminck to complete the Hurricanes list for WBBL|07.
