Swans want more for Dawson

- JON RALPH AND SIMEON THOMAS-WILSON

SYDNEY will demand an early first-round draft pick from Adelaide for star wingman Jordan Dawson after seeing the two first-rounders the Crows received for departing defender Jake Lever in 2017.

The Crows and Sydney will spend much of the next 10 days haggling over the trade value of Dawson, who the Swans were devastated to lose after he finished third in this year’s best and fairest.

The Crows are determined to keep their No.4 draft pick and might try to hand the Swans their No.23 pick and then sweeten the deal with a later pick swap.

That will be closer to 30 when father-son and academy bids come in and looks like it won’t satisfy what the Swans will want for the No. 56 pick of the 2015 draft.

Sydney believes Dawson was ready to explode as a long-term talent given he was ranked the No.1 wingman in the competition from Round 16 after starring at half back earlier in the season.

The Swans noted Carlton handed over pick eight for rebounding defender Adam Saad, with the Crows securing pick 12 for departing small forward Charlie Cameron after just four AFL seasons.
