Emotional five-week trial ahead

- AMBER WILSON

A HOBART man accused of attempting to murder a woman will face a trial of up to five weeks, with dozens of witnesses, in the Supreme Court of Tasmania.

On Monday, Justice Michael Brett told the jury the man allegedly committed the crime at Chigwell on April 24, 2017.

The court heard a long list of witnesses would be called, including ambulance officers, Tasmania Fire Service workers, police officers, medical experts and forensic scientists.

“You may well find some of this case distressing and some of it that excites strong emotions,” Justice Brett said.

“The emotions are there, but they shouldn’t influence the way you decide this case.

“You should decide this case dispassionately.”

The names of the man and the alleged victim have been suppressed from publication following a court order.

Crown prosecutor Linda Mason will deliver her opening address to the jury on Tuesday.
