DONATE TO RSPCA FOR A GOOD PAWS

- AMBER WILSON

IT does not matter if you are blind, deaf, old or only have some of your paws remaining, RSPCA’s various animal adoption shelters and care centres across Tasmania will take you in, and fix you up, regardless.

But come Thursday, the animal protection society is asking for a little help from its human friends to continue moving the state’s kittens, puppies, guinea pigs and bunnies from the streets and into cosy forever homes.

The annual appeal runs for one day each year, with each dollar matched by national companies.

“Whatever we can raise, we’ll get double that for the animals,” RSPCA Tasmania spokeswoman Kerri Walsh said.

“We don’t get any funds from government, so everything we do comes from grants we apply for, or fundraising. A lot of everything we do is on the strength of everyone trying to go that extra mile.”

She said the organisation aimed never to euthanise animals if it was avoidable and often spent far more in medical costs than what it charged in terms of adoption fees.

She said only $25 could provide flea and worm treatment, $50 would give a kitten vet care and vaccinations, while $75 kept an RSPCA inspector on the road.
