Beacon Lighting set for record store expansion

- CAMERON ENGLAND

BEACON Lighting has flagged a “record investment’’ in new bricks and mortar stores while also doubling down on its online strategy as our eagerness to pour money into our homes continues unabated.

Chief executive Glen Robinson (pictured) said the company had six new stores lined up for this financial year and would relocate another four.

Beacon has 116 stores across Australia at the moment, and Mr Robinson told the company’s annual general meeting on Tuesday that it had identified the potential for up to 184 in total.

“It will be a record year of investment for retail stories within Australia,’’ Mr Robinson said.

Beacon’s company store comparative sales for the first quarter of the current financial year were down 4.7 per cent on the same period last year, however that quarter was up 26.6 per cent in a bumper year.

Mr Robinson said the company was also chasing a larger slice of the trade market.
