RAIDERS TAKE TOP TERRITORY

- LUKE EDMUNDS

A BLISTERING all-round performance from Evan Gulbis has seen the Greater Northern Raiders occupy unfamiliar territory on the Cricket Tasmania Premier League ladder.

The newcomers took care of University by seven wickets in Launceston while all southern clashes were washed out.

Gulbis crunched 56 from 39 balls chasing down 147, including seven fours and two sixes, after contributing 3-15, a run out and a catch.

“To get on the board with a couple of poles and some runs under the belt is a nice start to the season,” he said.

“I don’t think the Raiders have been top of the ladder. It’s a fantastic achievement for such a young side.”

Next up is a trip to tackle Kingborough and Gulbis said his side would be confident.

“We go into that game with match practice,” said Gulbis, who will play with the Raiders until the border with Victoria opens.

“Our top five have all got off the mark, all our bowlers have got a wicket.”

He said the best approach to the run chase was to bat with intent.

“That’s when I play my best, when I’m aggressive,” he said.
