WELCOME RETURN FOR PERFORMERS

- ROSEMARY MURPHY

AFTER a year away the excitement of the Hobart Eisteddfod is back again, showcasing the best talent of the young and not-so young.

Proud parent Harry He said his 8-year-old daughter Izzie had worked hard in the lead up to the Eisteddfod.

“We’re really excited because it’s first time she’s been the stage,” he said.

Mr He said Izzie had weekly lessons and would practise on the piano for an hour each day.

“My daughter always says ‘I love playing piano but I don’t really like practice’, this has given her a goal and something to aim for. We’ve told her not to worry about who is going to win, just enjoy the audience and enjoy playing after all the practice you put in.”

Hobart Eisteddfod secretary Helen Cronin said it was an opportunity to show off emerging talent and give young performers the chance to receive valuable feedback.

“The best thing is seeing the amazing talented young children every year and seeing them grow and blossom, there is so much talent in this little city,” she said.

Last year was the first time the Eisteddfod was cancelled in the more than 70 years that it has been running.

“We run in May normally, but weren’t confident at the beginning of the year to start planning one,” Ms Cronin said.
