PERRY STICKS WITH CRICKET

- SELINA STEELE

STAR Australian cricketer Ellyse Perry has revealed AFLW was never on the cards, despite an approach from Carlton.

Perry, who turns 31 in November and will line up for the Aussies against India in Thursday’s T20 match against India on the Gold Coast, confirmed it was nothing more than a casual chat.

Perry, one of Australia’s greatest cricketers, is the first Australian cricketer to record 5000 runs and 300 wickets at international level, and has also represented the country in soccer.

But on Wednesday Perry ruled out a third cross-code bid, saying she was sticking with cricket.

Perry, who had met with Carlton coach Daniel Harford a few years ago when she moved to Melbourne, said she was committed to cricket. The all-rounder is often seen kicking a football during cricket warm-ups.

Carlton’s pitch to Perry was in part based around her desire to work in elite sports administration when she eventually retires, and the professionalism of AFLW.

A number of cricketers have made the switch to AFLW, including AFLW best and fairest Emma Kearney and Bulldog Kirsty Lamb.
