Kerr on the mark for Blues

- MARCO MONTEVERDE

MATILDAS captain Sam Kerr scored a seventh goal in five games for Chelsea in a 3-3 Women’s Champions League home draw against German club Wolfsburg.

Yet to address the tumult engulfing the national team back home, and as current Matildas continue to star in the UK, Kerr (pictured) opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 12th minute.

However, Wolfsburg scored the next three goals to lead 3-1 early in the second half. But the hosts fought back. Bethany England reduced Wolfsburg’s lead in the 51st minute, before a stoppage-time goal from Pernille Harder against her old club ensured the points were shared.

“We have to eliminate giving gifts,” Chelsea boss Emma Hayes said.

Kerr’s rich vein of goalscoring form comes as women’s football in Australia is set to be investigated following allegations from ex Matilda Lisa De Vanna of indecent assault, sexual harassment, bullying and grooming from teammates.
