Top Roo hops it to be a Two Blue

LINDISFARNE is primed for an assault on the Southern Football League next season after announcing former Essendon and Brisbane player Josh Green has joined the club as a playing assistant coach.

Green recently informed Clarence he would be stepping away from the TSL next season and on Monday it was officially announced he would be making his way to Anzac Park to suit up with the Two Blues for seaon 2022.

Oer his eight seasons in the AFL the crafty small forward kicked more than 130 goals and twice won the Brisbane Lions leading goal kicker award.

Lindisfarne coach Michael Cassidy was thrilled with the addition of the 29-year-old.

“He’s signed on for the one year as a playing assistantcoach and we’re hopeful he’s going to be really valuable for our footy club,” Cassidy said.

“He’s clearly kicked a fair few goals at AFL level and has done the same at TSL level so we know he’s got great goal smarts and his use of the footy is pretty good too so he’s going to be a big asset.”

Cassidy said that some existing friendships at the Two Blues and the reduced commitment the SFL afforded compared to the TSL were driving forces in Green’s decision.

“He’s obviously just wanted to come back and have a run around with his mates and he’s good mates with Jack Gleeson, and Jayden Baker is his cousin,” he said.

“So having those ties helped and I think he likes the atmosphere around the club and will enoy the reduced pressure of

the SFL.”

Cassidy expects Green to play both forward and through the middle of the ground and was excited about the knowledge he’d bring to his playing group.

“We know what he’ll bring on the field but it’s also the extra things he’ll bring off it with his time at Essendon and Brisbane and then under ‘Jez’ [Jeromey Webberley] at Clarence,” Cassidy said.

“Jez is one of the best coaches in the TSL, so we think he can help us a lot in terms of structure and the way we move the footy so that’ll be really handy,” he said.

Cassidy said he hoped the addition of Green could help boost the Two-Blues back to the top of the SFL hierarchy after a disappointing end to season 2021.

“We had no doubt we were a top two or three side this year and obviously Huonville got us comfortably in the prelim which was really disappointing but our side is still really young and we think we’ll be able to hold onto what we’ve got and maybe add a couple extra players and be right in the mix again,” Cassidy said.

Cassidy revealed he too would be pulling the boots on for the Two Blues again next season after recently re-signing for another season as the club’s playing coach.
