Large hydro-electric power stations need dams to store the water required to produce electricity.

1. Water fed from dam.

2. Flowing water spins a turbine connected to a generator.

3. That generator produces electricity.

The amount of electricity generated depends on the volume of water and the height of the water above the turbine.
