Mav to stand for One Nation

- KENJI SATO

A SIGN-waving maverick from Hobart has been endorsed by Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party as its lead Tasmanian senate candidate for the next federal election.

The unconventional Steve Mav is a serial political candidate best known for standing at busy highways waving his big orange political placards.

Mr Mav (pictured) has run as an independent for state parliament, the senate and for Brighton mayor, but has never been voted in.

He is a strident critic of “greenies”, QR code check-ins, “Covid-19 hysteria”, paedophiles, communists, and “climatards” who advocate for net zero emissions by 2050.

Among other things, he supports “true blue” Aussie battlers, Donald Trump, patriotism, the concept of freedom and the death penalty.

But Mr Mav said his main election platform would be supporting four super-health clinics for Tasmania, two in the north and two in the south.

He said the four clinics would be funded by scrapping the “dud” Battery of the Nation project to expand Tasmania’s hydro-electric capacities.

“Tasmania has the worst health system of any state in the country,” Mr Mav said.

“One in 10 Tasmanians is on a waiting list trying to get elective surgery in a hospital. It’s a disgrace and as a PHON senator, I will use my position in the Australian senate to strike a deal with the federal government. Pauline will back me all the way.”

Senator Hanson said she was confident in backing Mr Mav as the party’s top pick for the senate. “We are of the same value, we believe in the same objectives, we have the same passion for Australia,” she said.
