Boy, 16, on gun charges

A BOY, 16, has been charged with attempted armed robbery and firearms offences after allegedly assaulting a 17-year-old in the Launceston CBD about 9.30pm on Saturday.

Police said a pistol was allegedly produced during the altercatio­n.

The 17-year-old was taken to Launceston General Hospital where he received treatment for minor injuries.

The alleged offender, from Mayfield, was found just before noon on Sunday in Ravenswood.

Police allege a gel blaster pistol was found on him.

The youth was assisting police with their investigat­ion and was due to appear in an after-hours court session on Sunday evening.

Also on Sunday, police were called to a Glenorchy address following reports of a firearm being used to threaten a person.

Police searched the property and nearby areas and found a makeshift firearm.

The parties involved were known to each other.

Police said both incidents were isolated and there was no risk to the public. Anyone with informatio­n relating to either incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
