Boy, 16, on gun charges
A BOY, 16, has been charged with attempted armed robbery and firearms offences after allegedly assaulting a 17-year-old in the Launceston CBD about 9.30pm on Saturday.
Police said a pistol was allegedly produced during the altercation.
The 17-year-old was taken to Launceston General Hospital where he received treatment for minor injuries.
The alleged offender, from Mayfield, was found just before noon on Sunday in Ravenswood.
Police allege a gel blaster pistol was found on him.
The youth was assisting police with their investigation and was due to appear in an after-hours court session on Sunday evening.
Also on Sunday, police were called to a Glenorchy address following reports of a firearm being used to threaten a person.
Police searched the property and nearby areas and found a makeshift firearm.
The parties involved were known to each other.
Police said both incidents were isolated and there was no risk to the public. Anyone with information relating to either incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
