STUDENTS at Lansdowne Crescent Primary School have been recognised for their artistic flair, with the year 5s at the West Hobart school taking out the Hadley’s School Prize.

Students at four schools were in the running for the prize, with the University of Tasmania subsidising their visits to the Hadley’s Art Prize exhibition.

Students were then required to answer questions and take part in activities related to the exhibition.

“This prize is for classes who visited the Hadley’s Art Prize exhibition and engaged in one of the activities in the education kit,” Hadley’s Art Prize curator Dr Amy Jackett said.

Year 5 teacher Belinda Hall said: “Back in the classroom, students worked towards creating landscape postcards.

“Students experimented with watercolours, collages, drawing, printmaking and paint to recreate their special Tasmanian place.

“The landscape postcard project was adopted by the whole school, with classes from Kinder to grade 6 creating postcards for a large school exhibition.”

The winning artworks will go on display in the Howard Hadley Gallery at Hadley’s Orient Hotel in Hobart.
