WELL-BRED two-year-old pacer Miss Papenhuyzen made up for a string of minor placings to score an emphatic win in the $50,000 Evicus Stakes final for fillies over 1609m at Elwick on Wednesday night.
The Rohan Hillier-trained filly placed second at her first three starts this preparation that included runner-up to Mays Place in a Sweepstakes fillies prelude and final.
Hillier’s filly began well from the pole position but couldn’t hold out the favourite Mays Place who led comfortably.
Miss Papenhuyzen’s driver Conor Crook was content to drop in for the trail and in the home straight the last time she flashed home along the sprint lane to win comfortably.
