ROBOT ‘ARRESTED’

Ai-Da, the human-like female robot capable of creating works of art, has been impounded by Egyptian border police as she/it tried to enter Cairo with her/its British creator artist Aidan Meller.

Meller said Ai-Da had created a clay sculpture based on the riddle of the Sphinx. The work was to be part of the first contemporary art exhibition at the Egyptian pyramids for 4500 years.

However, Ai-Da, who looks eerily like a real woman, was impounded by confused customs officers in Cairo, who declared she/it “posed a threat to security”.
