MADDISON HAS A BALL BEING CAGEY BOWLER
CLARENCE’S Maddison Brooks is typically better known for her skills with the bat than ball but a stellar spell of 5-14 — including a hat-trick — in Launceston has turned that on its head.
Brooks cleaned up both Raiders openers then returned to dismantle the Northern side’s middle order with three consecutive wickets to walk away with the handsome figures of 5-14 from her four overs in their one-run T20 loss in the round prior to the Covid snap lockdown.
“I haven’t bowled much in the powerplay, so it was good to get that opportunity. And then bowl at the back end as well which was pretty good,” Brooks said.
“They’re two different types of bowling that I haven’t done, I was usually more in the middle overs so that was a good challenge and I guess it paid off.”
Brooks opens the batting for Clarence and notched a blistering 140 from 67 balls in second grade last season but has been working hard to add another string to her bow.
The 17-year-old credits the guidance of Kristen Beams at the Cricket Tasmania Academy for her emergence with the ball.
“It’s just working hard on my consistency,” Brooks said.
“Working hard on my game and hoping to keep developing.
“I’ve spent this year with a balance of both (batting and bowling) and playing my role for the team.’’
