WHEN IRON’S HOT, ‘CANES WILL STRIKE

- JARROD LAWLER jarrod.lawler@news.com.au

HOBART Hurricanes will be looking to ride their wave of momentum into Launceston on Saturday as the team aims to back up its impressive WBBL win over the Stars when they meet Adelaide Strikers at Invermay Park.

After losing their first two games in close encounters with the Renegades and the Sixers, the purple army were finally given something to cheer about on Sunday when a Rachel Priest century led Hobart to its first win of WBBL07.

While it was the performance of Priest that made the headlines, the team’s bowling attack continued its great start to the season and will be pivotal in its aim for backto-back wins.

Star recruit and WBBL alltime leading wicket taker Molly Strano (pictured) has led the way for the ‘Canes and, ahead of the match with the Strikers, said she was feeling in great rhythm.

“I feel like the ball is coming our pretty nicely,” Strano said.

“It’s nice to get back into the Big Bash as it’s been a long winter and especially in new colours as well which has added a new layer of excitement for me this year so I’m really enjoying my time in the purple.”

Strano said she was expecting a tough contest against the Strikers but felt the side was in a good position to secure back-to-back wins.

“The Strikers are a really well balanced side and not only their top order with the bat but they’ve got some real weapons with the ball as well,” she said. “We’ve done a fair bit

of research and we’re just trying to find some ways to nullify their impact but we are quietly confident and we’ve come off a good win so hopefully we can go two on the trot.”

The match is the first of a busy schedule for the ‘Canes in which they play five games in nine days in a stretch likely to determine whether they return to the finals this summer.

The ‘Canes and the Strikers will get under way at 10.15am on Saturday at Invermay Park.
