Speed limit reduced

-

A SPEED limit change on a section of the Tasman Highway is planned to create safer driving conditions.

From Monday, the speed limit at Douglas River will drop from 100km/h to 80km/h in both directions.

“The changes will make the road safer for road users travelling through Douglas River and vehicles turning into driveways along these sections of road,” a Department of State Growth spokesman said.

“Consideration was given to the characteristics of the road, including the number of driveways along the section and how it compared to road and speed limits in similar rural areas.

“Research tells us that even small reductions in travelling speeds can lead to a reduction in serious casualties.”
