Netball’s hall of fame has new faces
COVID may have stopped Netball Tasmania’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony this year, but it hasn’t diminished the honour bestowed upon this year’s inductees.
Three players (Amber Zieliniski (nee Large), Bev Harris and Olivia Beveridge) have been announced as this year’s inductees.
Zieliniski grabbed attention in 1997 when she was selected in the Tasmania’s 17 and under and 19 and under sides and the Australian 21 and under squad.
She earned an AIS scholarship in 1999 and captained the AIS team during a tour of England the same year, while also being a member of the Australian 21 and under squad.
She went on to play in the National League team for the Adelaide Ravens in 2001 and ‘02. She continues to pass on her experience as coach of Cripps Waratah.
Harris was awarded an
Order of Australia in 1996 for her services to netball that saw her a staple of the state team during the
1940s and 50s, and play for Australia in 1953. She was also an All-Australian umpire and coached and managed teams. She remains the STNA patron.
Beveridge rose quickly through the ranks on the
North West
Coast with
Devon, highlighted by being awarded the 2002 state league open most player award.
She went on to play for the Commonwealth Bank Trophy competition for Sydney Sandpipers in the 2000s as well as in the English National competition, where she still lives now.
Three volunteers (Jan Walley, Ann Pearce and Wendy Berry) and the Cavaliers 19 and under Tasmanian Netball League team from 2011-15, winning five straight premierships have also been inducted.
