A splash of love

SIMPSON AND McKEON THE NEW POWER COUPLE

- BRIANA DOMJEN JULIAN LINDEN

POPSTAR Cody Simpson and Olympic golden girl Emma McKeon are Australian swimming’s newest glamour couple.

The former Hollywoodbased singer and the 11-time Olympic medal winner are said to be “completely smitten” and are believed to have moved in together in recent weeks.

The pair have been spotted numerous times out and about on the Gold Coast and travel to and from training together each morning.

In a bid to keep their romance under wraps, Cody, 25, and McKeon, 27, have kept public affection to a minimum.

However, they have been spotted holding hands and a number of people from the Australian swimming circuit have confirmed the romance.

“They are absolutely together,” one swimming insider said. “There is no doubt they are an item.

“They are training together under Michael Bohl and have fallen for one another.”

And it seems their families approve, with Simpson’s younger sister Alli, mother Angie and father Brad all now following McKeon on Instagram.

Simpson spent years in Los Angeles, where he dated two of the world’s most famous faces in muso Miley Cyrus and model Gigi Hadid, and socialised with the likes of Justin Bieber, Kylie Jenner and Vanessa Hudgens.

While Simpson has MTV, Nickelodeon, Disney and Teen Choice awards to his name and shines in celebrity circles, McKeon is the star in the world of swimming – the shy freestyler being a fourtime world record holder and 11-time Olympic medal winner.

What the pair have in common is the fact they were both brought up by the beach, with Simpson spending his early days on the Gold Coast before moving to LA when he was 13 and McKeon growing up in Wollongong.

The budding romance comes less than a year after McKeon began dating sixtime Olympic medallist Kyle Chalmers. At the time, Chalmers and McKeon were two of the biggest names in Australian swimming.

Interestingly, Chalmers may be the one who decides if the newly happy couple can attend next month’s World Championships in Budapest together.

“Cody’s best chance of making the team is in 100m butterfly and they only take two swimmers to the world championships,” one insider said.

“Now Kyle, who had already said he wasn’t going to the world championships, has entered himself in the 100m butterfly at the trials in Adelaide.

“He says he has just come back from shoulder surgery and technically it is easier on his shoulder when he does butterfly instead of freestyle. But it is a funny coincidence.”

Two swimmers dating one another is nothing new, with chlorine often referred to as more effective than Cupid’s bow and arrow.

Throughout the years there’s been a number of hot swimming couples, with Stephanie

Rice and Eamon Sullivan, Emily Seebohm and

Mitch Larkin, Kyle Chalmers and

Madi Wilson all having dated.

They are completely smitten. They are together.
