Auto Apprentices

NEXT GEN HONOURED

- Bruce McIntosh TACC State Manager Prepared by Tasmanian Automotive Chamber of Commerce

During Australia’s most acute labour shortage in living memory, 248 apprentices have entered the automotive workforce thanks to the Tasmanian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (TACC) and its Victorian counterpart, VACC.

At a gala event in Melbourne, Victoria – hosted by Shane Jacobson and attended by special guest Kevin Sheedy – graduating apprentices and trainees from 2019, 2020 and 2021 were celebrated, with TACC Automotive Apprenticeships award winners flown in for the event.

Among the eight award winners recognised for their outstanding achievements were Will Dodge from Co-Op Toyota, who won TACC Apprentice of the Year, and Sam Mitchell from Jackmans Garage in Moonah, who took home the TACC Progressive Excellence Award.

They are pictured above alongside VACC Automotive Apprenticeships head, Nigel Muller, myself and TACC Group Training Scheme Manager, Nigel Fox.

I congratulate all apprentice trainee graduates, award winners, host employers and mentors.

The industry nationwide is struggling to fill the 32,000 positions available, and so training and placing skilled workers into automotive is amongst the most important work TACC does.

TACC commends the Tasmanian State Government for continuing to support industry by way of apprentice training incentives and support services.

The TACC Automotive Apprenticeships team does a magnificent job playing its part in supporting the industry with the next generation of skilled workers across most sectors.
