‘MOUSEY’ ON THE FRONT FOOT FOR NEXT BIG BOUT

- JARROD LAWLER

DESPITE a last-minute change of opponent, the state’s first female professional boxer is confident she can add another title to her trophy cabinet next month as she seeks revenge for a previous defeat.

Krystina “Mousey’’ Jacobs (53), who in 2018 became Tasmania’s first professional female boxer, will fight Sara Jalonen from New South Wales in Hobart on June 11 for the Tasmanian Super Featherweight Title.

Jacobs will be out for redemption following a 2018 loss to Jalonen in what was Jacobs’ last bout as an amateur.

Jalonen will enter the ring as a replacement for Jacobs’ original opponent Tywarna Campbell who recently contracted Covid.

Despite the last-minute change, Jacobs said she was hell bent on winning after losing her most recent fight to Victorian Carly Salmon in April.

“It is a little bit annoying but now it’s on to someone else,”

Jacobs said. “I was training a certain style to suit her [Campbell] but now I’ll focus on myself and I’ll be good to go on fight night.

“She beat me in my last amateur fight in 2018 so it’ll be a good fight and go the distance but I reckon I can outbox her this time round.”

Jacobs said she had become a much better fighter in the past four years.

“It was a close fight last time but I’m much stronger and fitter now and so I think I can beat her this time and I’m looking forward to getting some revenge.”

In preparation for the fight, Jacobs will travel to Melbourne this weekend to spar with recently crowned IBF World Super Bantam Weight Champion Cherneka Johnson.

Jacobs and Jalonen will fight on the Return to Action card on June 11 at the Hobart Netball and Sports Centre.

It will be headlined by Luke Jackson in what he says is the final fight of his 20-year boxing career.
