Arnie’s inspiration

“IF it bleeds we can kill it,” says Hobart Chargers women’s coach Dwain Davie ahead of their matchup with the highly fancied Bendigo Braves on Friday night.

The Chargers have had a tough start to their 2022 NBL1 South campaign with the youthful side sitting winless after six games as they prepare to do battle with the Braves (5-1) in Kingston on Friday night.

Despite going into the matchup at 0-6, Davie said his side would go in with confidence that their best could get the job done. And the coach is taking inspiration from Arnold Schwarzenegger from his famous line in the 1987 smash hit Predator.

“We know it’ll be a difficult task but as I said to the girls on Monday night they are human just like we are and susceptible to the same issues that we are,” Davie said.

“So essentially if it bleeds we can kill it so that’s our approach on Friday night – we are coming in ready to have a crack at them. If we follow the game plan and hit our KPIs and four quarters then and as I’ve said to the girls if we can do that consistently we’ll be in games at the end of the games and results will take care of itself.”

Davie said he was excited about what import point guard Paige Bradley could bring to the team on Friday after playing limited minutes in her debut last week due to arriving on the day of the game. “She’s had a week on the training track now and we are looking forward to getting her out there and having a run around and see how she goes.

“Even in the limited minutes last week she had a really positive impact on the team and the calmness she brought to our back-court really made a difference particularly in the second half.

“So I’m really looking forward to how that looks after a week with the group and I’m really excited to see what happens,’’ he said.

The Chargers and the Braves will tip off at 6pm at the Kingborough Sports Centre on Friday followed by the men’s Chargers at 8pm.
