JORDIE’S WALKING TALL FOR TIGERS

- JAMES BRESNEHAN james.bresnehan@news.com.au

THE Tigers’ new sensation Jordan Lane could play in any State League and even the AFL, says coach Trent Baumeler, after his electric start to the TSL season which has seen him rise to become one of the competition’s most dangerous key forwards.

Lane had 11 marks and seven scoring shots in the Tigers’ 27-point win over Clarence last Saturday, but Baumeler is hoping for a better return than 1.6 when they meet North Hobart at North Hobart Oval on Saturday.

Lane was not one of the eight Tasmanian players who nominated for the 2022 NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft on July 1.

Baumeler is confident big “Jordie” could take his career to another level.

“Jordan could easily play in other state leagues,” he said.

“He shouldn’t put a limit of playing at the next level or even the highest level in the country if a club was looking at him.

“We don’t want any of our players to put a ceiling on themselves. We want them to be the best version of themselves and play at the best level they can.

“With continued seasoning and work ethic Jordan can go a lot higher,’’ Baumeler said.

“It’s not just him. Guys like Elijah Reardon, who has already played a bit of VFL footy last year, can also play at a high level. All teams have got guys who can play at higher levels.

“We also understand our level of footy is pretty good as well and there’s no shame in being a 100 or 150-game TSL player because our product is pretty legit.”

Young gun Max Collidge (ankle injury) will be given until game day to prove his fitness after leaving last week’s match on crutches.
