Sandy Bay survives a fright at Cremorne to remain undefeated
SANDY Bay remains undefeated this season in Bowls South’s Derwent Eye Specialists Premier Division following a hard-fought split-rink nine-shot victory over Cremorne, 79-70.
Sandy Bay’s win was set up by Bryce Guy and his team who were in control all day, recording a strong 13shot victory against Leigh Munnings, 24-11.
Keghan Booth had a tremendous, high-standard tussle with Pat Hoffman,
winning 13 of the 21 ends, but managing just a 19-16 victory.
A highlight for Cremorne was the debut of 11-year-old Mitch Banks who led for Peter Marshall. Mitch played a great game and was instrumental in helping Marshall and his rink record a tight two-shot victory over Justin Plummer, 22-20.
Brad Knight and his team led for 20 of the 21 ends but had to dig deep towards the end of the game with Knight himself playing some important bowls late to ensure a five-shot victory against Andrew Norris, 21-16.
At Buckingham, third-placed Glenorchy Rodman had a convincing thre-rink, 42-shot victory, 105-63, against the home side.
Luke Turner’s rink was outstanding for the visitors, winning 34-9 against Grant Chamberlain.
Rodman’s other winning skips were Jack Ellis 24-12, against Barry Nash, and Cam Tegg, who won 28-18 against Andrew Chamberlain.
Craig Owen continued his strong run of results for Buckingham, again salvaging a rink win for his side, holding on for a 24-19 win over a fast-finishing Tony Vince.
Kingborough defeated Brighton in a split-rinks decision 83-78.
Will Coad and his third, Brent Forsyth, converted well all day, leading the way for the home side to win by 13 shots against Matt Breward 26-16, with Jason Fowler in support with his 24-16 victory against Mick Daniels.
Ricky Limbrick, with his lead Paul Roberts outstanding, did his best for his side with his 14-shot win over
Kingborough’s Ryan Guy 27-13 and Grant Wakefield the other winning skip for Brighton with his close twoshot win over Nic Courto 22-20.
On their home green, New Norfolk won a split-rinks contest against Claremont by 12 shots, 82-70, largely due to Mitch Banks’ 19-shot win, 29-10, against Shane Peck, 22-15.
Bottom side Dover made it two wins for the season in a three-rink, 10shot defeat of Beltana, 88-78, to add some spice to the closing rounds of the roster season.
