PRICES UP FOR BEACHY ’BURBS

With Australian lamb and mutton production reaching record highs, exports have lifted substantia­lly, resulting in Australia accounting for more than 50 per cent of global sheepmeat exports in 2023 for the first time.

The large increase in exports has impacted our competitor­s, particular­ly New Zealand, the second-largest lamb and mutton exporter, which has seen a decrease in its market share in China.

Australian sheepmeat to China lifted by 43 per cent, to 197,448 tonnes.

Research into unit layouts reveals most are designed to meet the needs of developers rather than residents.

The UNSW Sydney study reveals a mismatch in layout preference­s between developers building new apartments and the growing number of families with children who call them home.

The research found one and two-bedroom apartments made up 81 per cent of new apartments in Sydney.

Fifty-five per cent of all apartments were also centreshar­ed space types – in other words, they had a layout without a hallway or corridor.

Green shoots have shot up in two dozen Hobart suburbs.

Exclusive PropTrack quarterly home price data shows city suburbs like Taroona and Bellerive, alongside beachy suburbs further out of the city – Carlton and Dodges Ferry – posted median house price growth over the past three months.

Taroona and Carlton led the charge with a 3.9 per cent increase, Dodges Ferry was up by 2.2 per cent, Bellerive 1.9 per cent and Midway Point 1.7 per cent.

However, 29 suburbs recorded a quarterly pricing dip.

This ranged from virtually flat figures in Lindisfarn­e and West Moonah (0.1 per cent decrease), through to a 7.8 per cent reduction in Sandford.
