Ready to plug in to energy expo

- Duncan Abey

For more than a century, Tasmania has led the way as a pioneer of renewable energy generation.

Later this year, the state will host its first ever Energy Efficiency Electric Expo, showcasing the latest innovations and technologies in the fastgrowing world of electric solutions.

Scheduled to coincide with the annual Australian Electric Vehicle Association conference from November 1-3, the expo will draw industry leaders, policymakers, and the public together over three days at PW1 in Hobart.

The expo will offer attendees the opportunity to explore advancements in renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies, and learn more about electric vehicles, smart grids, and sustainable building solutions.

Director of the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (Tasmania), Jon Ettershank, said that with panel discussions and interactive demonstrations of innovative products and services, the expo was designed to inspire positive change in the transition towards a more sustainable future. “With sustainability at the forefront of global priorities, the expo offers a unique opportunity to showcase Tasmania’s commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship while fostering collaboration and driving meaningful progress towards a cleaner, greener future,” Mr Ettershank said.

TasNetworks sustainability specialist Alison Johnson said her organisation was proud to be involved as TasNetworks was at the heart of the transition to a low-emissions future. “That’s because we will be the main way that people connect to the grid in the future in terms of electric vehicles,” she said.

“We will also be the connection point for hydrogen, batteries, and renewable-energy projects.”

Tasmanian Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan said the state had a proud history of sustainable electricity production, and was one of only a handful of places in the world with 100 per cent self-sufficiency in renewable generation.
