Day full of fes­tive fun

The an­nual Christ­mas cel­e­bra­tion was held last Tues­day, De­cem­ber 11. Ninety-four mem­bers and guests ar­rived at mid­day at the Ger­ald­ton Queen El­iz­a­beth II Cen­tre look­ing for­ward to the oc­ca­sion.

Pres­i­dent Trevor Hansen wel­comed guests, mem­bers and friends and thanked those who had made the day pos­si­ble. He also gave spe­cial thanks to the spe­cial guests who spon­sor the bowl­ing tour­na­ments dur­ing the year.

The pro­gram for the day was or­gan­ised by so­cial com­mit­tee mem­bers Val Brown and Faye Wright. Other will­ing helpers also pro­vided sup­port. Thank you for all the prepa­ra­tion and work in­volved for this spe­cial day.

Spe­cial guests in­cluded spon­sors Ian Blayney MLA, Colin de Grussa MLC and Lau­rie Gra­ham MLC (on be­half of Dar­ren West), Kelly Eas­tough from Bendigo Bank, City of Greater Ger­ald­ton Mayor Shane Van Styn and his part­ner Zoe Parasil­iti.

Queen El­iz­a­beth II Cen­tre rep­re­sen­ta­tives Rosetta Fin­lay, Louise O’Mal­ley and Fred Block were also wel­comed and thanked for the sup­port they give to the Se­niors Ac­tion Group through­out the year.

En­ter­tain­ment be­gan im­me­di­ately, pro­vided by Kerry and Peter Van­der­pol, known as Left of the Line. The mu­si­cal duo played and sang dur­ing the af­ter­noon.

Din­ner in­cluded an en­tree of prawns or chicken, roast main meal and sweets of sticky date pud­ding and Christ­mas tri­fle, which kept ev­ery­one well fed dur­ing the af­ter­noon.

Raf­fle money cards were opened and the win­ners were In­grid Raw­son, Barry and Shirley Javens, Dorothy Bod­ding­ton, Brian Clark, Pat Black­more (x2), Rhod Lord­ing and Ian Mans­field.

Door prizes were drawn and the win­ners were Kelly Eas­tough, Rhonda Ma­ley, June Mor­ris, Pauline Fowler, Leila Green, Louise O’Mal­ley, Barry Javens, Lina Mit­toni and Chris Blanco.

Small gifts were given to ev­ery­one who at­tended the cel­e­bra­tion so no-one went home empty-handed.

The Royal Fly­ing Doc­tor Ser­vice raf­fle was the last item for the day.

This in­cluded sev­eral ham­pers which in­cluded items pro­vided by mem­bers over the last few weeks.

Prize win­ners in or­der were Lyn Black­more, Kay Eas­tough, Dawn Schofield, Faye Wright, Glo­ria Ward, Rhonda Reynolds, In­grid Raw­son, Lila Gud­geon, Joe Mi­ragliotta, Val Ward, Sylvia Peel, Dawn Parry, Ray Blanco and Iris Macken­zie.

The to­tal funds raised will be ad­vised in a later edi­tion.

We are sad to learn of se­niors who have been un­well and wish them a speedy re­cov­ery es­pe­cially Di, John, Ted, Joy and Edna.

Send­ing our sin­cere con­do­lences to those mem­bers who have lost a loved one re­cently.
