On Sunday 18 November, local youth organization, StreetWork hosted their Community Fun Day in Hornsby Mall. StreetWork’s Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Branch was supported by Rotary Wahroonga and local businesses, local political members and supporters.

Aligning with International Men’s Day, this fundraising event focused on Positive Male Role Models. The theme was to encourage males, of any age, to work together for mental and physical health – and it didn’t disappoint!

Event organiser and Local Health Advocate, Mrs Lucy Dahill says “With more young men experiencing anxiety or depression between the ages of 16 to 24, it’s vital they feel supported by their community and have resources to help them. On Sunday our community showed support with gusto, positive energy and laughter all day; I feel very proud to have been part of it and thank all those who participated. Our volunteers, stallholders, performers, donors and special guests really bought all their energy on the day.” On average, one in eight men will experience depression and one in five men will experience anxiety at some stage of their lives. Mr Matt Kean says “It was fantastic to be part of the StreetWork Hornsby Community Fun Day. I want to thank StreetWork for the wonderful event they put on over the weekend and the amazing work they do in our community. It is vital, that as male role models in our community that we support our mates, our young men, colleagues and peers when it comes to mental health.”

The Fun Day raised over $6K for StreetWork’s Kickstart Mentoring Program.

“StreetWork is very grateful to be part of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai community. We are passionate and eager to work with the local youth community, to turn young lives around and support their futures” says Board Member, Michael Greene.
