Famous rally stage demands respect

SOME OF the best driving roads in Australia are in the Adelaide Hills, starting just 20 minutes from the City of Churches CBD, and having played host to some epic tarmac rally stoushes over the years as the battleground of Classic Adelaide, now the Adelaide Rally. To explore the Adelaide Hills in a fast car is bliss, the area dotted with charming old towns and, of course, fantastic roads. One of them is this one, Gorge Road, 17.7km of sometimes tight, narrow yet grippy bitumen, flanked by the occasional rockface and with some pretty unique scenery. At 80km/h and heavily policed, especially on weekends, take it easy. Beware the blind crests if coming from Chain of Ponds.
