Mountain Biking UK

30 YEARS OF THOROUGHLY WRECKED AND HONESTLY RATED GEAR

-

Ever since our very first issue back in 1988, we’ve placed a great deal of importance on telling you the truth about the latest bits of kit. That means unpicking the tech behind each product before getting down and dirty with it on the trail, to give you the most complete picture possible, so you can buy with confidence.

Throughout our 30 years in print, that process has remained largely the same, thanks in part to our founding team creating such a rigid testing regime back in MBUK’s early years.

John Stevenson – one of our first technical writers – played a pivotal role in shaping the testing principles and procedures that still go into producing the reviews you see on these pages (read all about those in more detail on the previous page). He was still around to pass on his knowledge when Rob Weaver, our current technical editor-in-chief, first started on MBUK back in 2010.

It was Steve Worland who really set the standard when it came to testing, though, during the first 20 years of MBUK’s life. As one of the top racers in the UK back in the late ’80s/early ’90s, his singletrackslaying credentials were unquestionable while his technical knowledge and meticulous eye for detail made him one of the – if not the – best in the business. Steve was our technical director for the best part of two decades and also sat at the helm of our sister title What Mountain Bike’s testing for many years. He not only oversaw thousands of bike and product tests, but also helped nurture talent, bringing on other renowned MBUK testers including Seb Rogers, Mike Davis and Guy Kesteven – who’s picked up Steve’s baton and is now our primary bike tester and hugely respected across the industry.

Though Steve (pictured below) sadly passed away in 2014, we continue to operate to his very high standards, in a bid to bring you the most accurate, fair and thorough information possible, via our dedicated, knowledgeable and properly pinned test team.

Here’s to our next 30 years and many more days on the trail thrashing the life out of bikes and products!
