Giro Cylinder shoes £114.99

Mountain Biking UK - - WRECKED & RATED -

Giro’s new Cylinders are lightweight, secure and efficient-pedalling yet comfy shoes that tread a good balance between XC and trail performance, at a reasonable price. The stiff sole lets you put decent power down without causing cramp or bruising over longer distances like ultra-rigid race shoes can. Boa’s latest micro-adjust L6 dial and a Velcro toe strap keep things secure and supportive for sprinting, without any obvious hot spots. While the standard fit worked well for our testers, there’s an HV (High Volume) version in the same 40-48 range, and women’s sizes 36-42 are covered too. The mixed mesh upper keeps weight down to 750g (pair, size 44 with cleats) and keeps your feet cool when working hard. You’ll need to tape them up or use overshoes in winter though. The continual tread blocks (not separate lugs) work better in the dry than mud too, so it’s good that the cutaway toe sections are designed to take studs for charging up slippery climbs.
