OneUp have taken a different approach here, providing a slightly convex platform that’s designed to fit into the arch of your foot. In theory, we can see how a flexible shoe might deform around this to provide extra traction, but in practice – despite the edges being studded with 5mm-tall hexagonal pins – we didn’t find them as grippy as conventional concave pedals, with our feet shifting around on the raised central section when things got rough. On the plus side, the convex design keeps the leading edge incredibly thin, so the risk of rock strikes is much reduced. With four bearings inside (three small, one large), durability should be excellent, and the platform is wide enough that the raised bearing housing doesn’t interfere with your foot position. Axle removal only requires a cassette tool, so servicing is incredibly easy. http://int.oneupcomponents.com
