Hope F20 £125
As you’d expect from Hope, these UK-made flats are masterpieces of CNC machining. The body is amply sized, reasonably thin and has a decent amount of chamfering on the outside edges. Machined ridges on the platform provide some purchase, but there’s no concavity and the blunt-ended conical pins are too fat to really dig into soles. Accessed from below, they’re easy to replace, and a big bag of spares is included. Inside are three cartridge bearings and a Norglide bushing, protected by double seals at the crank end. Because of this and the quality of construction, experience has shown these pedals to be incredibly reliable. They’re not cheap, but you’re paying for British engineering and a product that should last you years. If out-andout grip isn’t your top priority, these could be a good investment. www.hopetech.com
