The originators of ‘flat pedal thunder’ have a wealth of experience when it comes to making grippy pedals, so it’s no surprise that their fourth generation Penthouse Flats have a great shape. With concavity front-to-back and side-to-side, they cup your foot securely, and the 5mm pins provide all the traction that’s needed. The pins’ 2.5mm Allen heads are accessed from underneath, so it’s simple to replace any damaged ones. We’ve tested the MK4s before and reliability has always been good, thanks to their double-bushing and single-bearing design. We’ll reiterate our previous big criticism though – the lack of any axle extension between the pedal body and crank arm means your foot is pushed off the side of the pedal slightly. If Burgtec made a longer axle option, these would be scoring top marks. www.burgtec.co.uk
