DMR Vault Brendog Ice £110

-

Another staff favourite, DMR’s Vaults have big platforms that are concave in both directions and, thanks to 11 well-positioned pins per side, do a sterling job of locking your feet in place. Brendan Fairclough’s signature pedals come with an additional set of ‘Moto’ pins too, but although advertised as being more aggressive, we didn’t find these as grippy as the standard set. The offset platform means the front and rear pins screw in from below, which allows for a decent obstacle-avoiding chamfer too. Past experience has shown these to develop a bit of a rattle over time, but bearing and bushing kits are readily available. While they’re not the cheapest, the Vaults are some of the best-feeling flats around – and if cost is no object, DMR offer a super-light magnesium/ titanium version for twice the price. www.upgradebikes.co.uk
