These trousers definitely hold Madison’s promise to keep wet weather out. Fully-taped seams and a 2.5-layer waterproof fabric (with three-layer rear, inner thigh and knee panels to add extra protection in high-wear areas) make them brilliant for British winter riding. On milder days they do get pretty warm, although there are vents on the thighs to help you dump heat. The trousers fit well, and the tailored cut around the calves and Velcro straps at the bottom of the legs stop them interfering with your drivetrain while pedalling, while still allowing freedom of movement. They’re spacious enough to fit a light set of knee pads underneath too. There are two pockets on the hips, which seal with sturdy waterproof zips. They’re not massive, but are big enough to squeeze your phone and wallet into. Trying to wedge in any more than that can restrict movement. Sarah www.madison.co.uk
