Kenda Hellkat Pro RSR AGC 27.5x2.4in tyre £50

-

This is a full-on, high-grip, max-security enduro/park tyre, with a tall (20mm) sidewall reinforcement skirt above the bead to stabilise it at even mid-teen pressures. Three separate belts of Kevlar sit under the crown and shoulders to keep the topside mobile but fend off cuts and tears. The result is a tyre that feels more ‘alive’ than a dual-ply bomber but has lasted incredibly well, even after smashing round the ’Ard Rock Enduro course on the front of a tandem. Add an open, slightly ramped block tread in Kenda’s ‘Race Stick-E Rubber’ compound (firm underneath, 42A on top) and you’ve got a reliably supergrippy and communicative tyre. At 1,135g and with a sticky compound all over, it’s a bit slow, but there’s a 300g lighter ‘DTC’ version for trail use, which blows up to a proper 2.4in (61mm), whereas the AGC is undersized at 57mm.
