Howies Light Merino £55

-

Howies were something of a leader of the merino charge way back when, and this lightweight option was a staple of many a mountain biker’s wardrobe. It’s supremely comfortable against the skin and, despite us wearing it for the best part of a week, including sleeping in it (it was Scotland and very cold, don’t judge), it never got smelly. The cut is casual enough to wear it as a long-sleeve T-shirt and, being wool, it has an instantly cosy feel when you put it on. We’ve worn it on warmer days and it doesn’t overheat either. It’s a good all-rounder that, in our experience, will do good winter duty on and off the bike. Our only quibble is that the cut appears to have changed from previous versions and it’s looser in the body than before, which works for more casual use but is less good for layered-up riding. www.howies.co.uk
