Helly Hansen Lifa Merino Hybrid Top £80

-

Helly Hansen are known for their technical baselayers. This two-layer top combines merino wool for warmth on the outside with their own ‘Lifa’ synthetic wicking fibres on the inside. The warmest baselayer in the Norwegian brand’s range, the result is cosy enough that you don’t need a midlayer yet it was versatile enough to cope when we were out testing on Scottish trails and the weather changed from bright sun to blizzard in a matter of minutes. Zipping the high neck right up seals in the heat but the next-to-skin wicking fibres, plus lighter-weight mesh under the arms and on the back, work well to keep you sweat-free. It doesn’t smell either, even after extended use. Flatlock seams boost comfort. While the Hybrid Top isn’t cheap, we reckon its performance justifies the price tag. www.hellyhansen.com
