The Brecon Beacons provide stunning riding for all abilities, from remote technical routes to family-friendly rides around reservoirs. The hillside trails used for this ride are dirt and grass, so they su er in the wet and are best left for drier days.

GETTING THERE Talybont-on-Usk is south of Brecon, o the A40. There’s no railway station nearby.

FACILITIES Talybont Bike Hub has parking, a bike wash, toilet, showers and changing rooms. The Star Inn in Talybont is friendly and does good food and drink plus B&B (01874 676635, www.thestarinn talybont.com). The White Hart Inn has dorm rooms (01874 676227, www.whitehartinntalybont.co.uk) and there’s camping at Tal-y-bont Farm (01874 676674, www.talybontfarmcamping.co.uk). There’s also The Dragons Back pub and bunkhouse, on the A479 near the top of the route (01874 711353, www. thedragonsback.co.uk). Talybont Stores at the start/ end has a good cafe.
