ROUTE SUMMARY A picturesque ride around Loch Lomond, with two ferry crossings to add to the adventure START/FINISH Tarbet pier (grid ref NN 319/044, postcode G83 7DE)

Head south on the West Loch Lomond cycle path, parallel to the A82, and follow it for nearly 8km to Inverbeg. Bear left down to the jetty to catch the ferry to Rowardennan.

On the east side of the loch, head left (north) on the West Highland Way, passing Rowardennan Lodge youth hostel, where it heads o -road. Keep right at the next two forks (the first goes to Ptarmigan Lodge; the second goes along the shoreline, past Rob Roy’s Prison, and isn’t suitable for bikes). Continue past Rowchoish bothy, along the shoreline and over some footbridges, to Inversnaid.

Catch the ferry back over Loch Lomond to Inveruglas. Cross the A82, turn left (south) for 0.75km, then go right on an access road to Loch Sloy. Continue under the railway line, uphill, ignoring the access road to the right, for 1km, to Ardvorlich. Keep straight ahead, then go left over a bridge.

Go uphill on the singletrack (power cables overhead), then down the other side, joining a section of doubletrack and keeping left at the fork. Climb and bear hard left, past the railway station and back into Tarbet.
