Route summary A short, fast, fun and furious ride along a range of excellent trails, which is signposted for easy navigation, but still has a nice, natural feel to it Start/ inish Starveall car park, near the top of Leith Hill (grid ref TQ 131/433, postcode RH5 6LU)

Head out of the back of the car park and turn right on the bridleway to a junction with the Greensand Way trail. Go left on this, uphill to Leith Tower. Just past the tower, join the Summer Lightning trail on the left, just as you enter the trees.

Stay on this twisty trail as it winds down the hillside to the gate at the bottom. Take the track up to the right, then follow the signpost o to the right, which takes you along some surfaced singletrack that roughly traces the route of the original Moonbase trail. At the end, carry on down the track, past the cricket pitch on your left.

Take a left, signposted into the trees, for the next section, which was originally known as Cousin Vinnie’s Strange Garden. Follow this trail along, with a number of short ups and downs, until you reach the end of the surfaced part. Afterwards, it becomes more natural and rooty, with an o -camber descent, joining one of the original Redlands trails, called Waggledance.

This delivers you to a clearing on Wolverns Lane, where you go left on the bridleway. Look for the signposts taking you right, to join the original Summer Lightning trail. At the end of the trail, you could just turn right on Wolverns Lane and follow this all the way back, past Leith Tower, to the car park. Alternatively, when you reach a track crossing with old fence posts but no signs, go left.

Drop down to a drive by some houses and keep ahead, then go right at the T-junction, along to a road. Turn left on this past more houses. The route becomes o -road and you head uphill, keeping ahead to join a narrower track. After climbing for another 1km, bear right at a faint fork.

Go right at a bridleway T-junction, cruise downhill for around 300m, then turn left on a bridleway which crosses this track. Proceed for around 400m and turn right, back into the car park, to finish.
