OTHER RIDING

BikePark Wales: The UK’s biggest bike park lies just a short drive west of BMCC, making the two venues ideal to tie together for a full weekend of adrenalinefuelled action. www.bikeparkwales.com

Cwmcarn: Head south and you’ll find the trail centre and DH venue of Cwmcarn. There are two red routes, a blue loop and two black DH runs. Uplifts for the downhill runs should be opening back up in June/July. www.cwmdown.co.uk

VERDICT

The fact that riders will drive several hours for a single day riding at Black Mountains says it all, really. The bike park may not be built on the biggest hill or offer much deviation from manmade flow trails, but the quality of the tracks and the immaculately built jumps have earned this place a deserved reputation. It’s not somewhere we’d recommend for absolute beginners, but for those who are more comfortable going fast and getting some serious airtime, it’s an MTB paradise here.
